Shepaug Valley School Learner Outcomes

Core Values

The poster seen above is hung in every classroom reminding students and staff of our Shepaug Core Values and Guiding Beliefs as evidenced by our Learner Outcomes.

The Shepaug Learner Outcomes are the foundation of our educational program. Each outcome is based on a rigorous skill set deemed essential for 21st century learning and productivity, and all outcomes combined ensure that students are prepared to navigate college, career and life long learning. The complete skill set associated with each Shepaug Learner Outcome is clearly defined through an analytic rubric with a defined level of proficiency. This rubric is used to guide instruction, to encourage self-assessment, and to measure student progress in meeting each outcome.

Click each Learner Outcome below to view the corresponding rubric.

The Shepaug Learner Outcomes are taught and modeled in all courses at Shepaug. Each department has responsibility for comprehensively teaching a specific learner outcome, and upper level courses within the department have responsibility for measuring achievement of that learner outcome. Shepaug reports student progress in meeting each learner outcome on the student report card and transcript.

Senior Project Spotlight
Senior Project Spotlight

Jessica Rivera’s Senior Project is all about what the American Dream means to individuals. In her sophomore year, they looked at the American Dream in American Studies. It was here that the idea for her senior project took place. She began to wonder if the American Dream still exists? Jessica feels very strongly that the American Dream is still alive and well. To Jessica, it is one of the most valuable parts of American Society. She is researching how people, both American Citizens and recent immigrants feel about the American Dream. She is documenting her findings with video interviews.
